Shan Fish Rice

Let me tell you about one of our must-try food during your stay in Nyaung Shwe / Inle Lake. 

 The Shan Rice, is a local dish usually eaten for breakfast. Some people also enjoy having it for lunch or dinner. 

It is made with a mix of Shan rice or Inle rice, tomato stock, boiled snake head fish soup, tumeric powder and fish paste, fried garlic oil. And is served with garlic, chive root, fried pork skin and rice cracker.

Brief Story of Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda

In the time of Zaw Bwar “Si Hsine Pha” in the year 721, when he founded Nyaung Shwe. About 580 years ago, five Buddha images were sculpted while the “Than Htaung Village” caves were explored. In Tourist Burma year 1996, there was so much tourists come and visit to Inle floating market . But the climate was got worse during in these year, Inle lake water level at low water. Covid-19 Update Guidelines - 16th January, 2021 ( latest update) Documents required to bring - To visit Nyaung Shwe, you need to bring a letter of recommendation from your residence township to present at the town entrance check-point. Also, some villages have check-points at their entrance. Quarantine Requirements - Travelers arriving by car People coming from Yangon, Mandalay, Stay-at-Home Townships and overseas need stay at the Quarantine Facility Center or a Government designated quarantine hotel for 14 days at your own expense. The Quarantine Facility Center is the Nyaung Shwe Basic High School No. 1 and it costs 3.000Ks per day (included meals). - Travelers arriving by plane Passengers arriving at Heho Airport, will have the authorities verifying their recommendation letters from your residence township and will identify those who need to stay under quarantine. Interesting Facts about Inle Lake

Inle is a 14 miles in length and 7 miles wide lake, part of the Shan Hills, the lake is bounded by the East Sin & West Lattmongkyawe, Shwe Maye Tint, Taungkhamauk, ShweInn Tein and Shwe O Daung Mountains. It is located 2.914 feet above sea level. According to geologists, Inle Lake is a dissolved lake formed by the melting of limestone. It is believed that the lake is 200 million. The lake receives water from numerous creeks and rivers flowing from many different directions, even from different states. But unfortunately according to the UNDP & FAO’s research in 1993 the lake level is decreasing 3.5cm a year. The people that lives on the lake are called Innthar. And there are many different stories behind the origin of them. Seagulls by the lake

During the winter season, seagulls come to Inle Lake. They usually stay on the middle of the lake. But on this winter, due to the low number of tourists due to the Covid-19, the birds are staying at the Jetty of Nyaung Shwe in search of food. In this area, seagulls are often fed with bread and traditional Nyaung Shwe fried chick peas. Unfortunately bread, chips and fried food are very unhealth for birds. Fish is the best food/snack to keep them healthy.
